MUSIC HISTORY
This course will cover listening and discussion of musical topics from the 1900’s to the present, tracing the development of Jazz and Rock & Roll music. Students will study the development of musical styles in relation to the coinciding historical period.
OBJECTIVES
Students will:
1. discuss and apply the basic elements of music as active listeners of a variety of music.
2. be able to identify, analyze and discuss recordings in a variety of musical styles from the 1900’s to the present.
3. develop an understanding of each musical period by focusing on selected great composers and compositions.
4. integrate the varied musical styles with events of cultural, social and historical relevance.
5. discuss and analyze the influence of early Jazz and Rock & Roll on the popular music of today.
FINAL EXAM
