GUITAR CLASS
Welcome to guitar Class! This course is for the High School student with little or no prior experience interested in learning about music through guitar performance.
Students need to have their own guitars for class and home practice. Guitar class is about sharing music with each other, playing and learning enough to continue to make music for the rest of your life! But it’s more than just playing the guitar. We will learn about many aspects of music and will develop multiple artifacts of YOUR work for your arts proficiency portfolio. We do this in the following ways:
I. A. Class activities:
· Performing alone and with the class: solos, duets, trios and quartets
· Composing short melodies and chord accompaniments
· Improvising original melodies over chord changes
· Listening to, analyzing, and describing music
· Evaluating music and musical performances
· Understanding relationships between music, the arts, and disciplines outside of the arts
· Understanding music in relation to history and culture
B. Guitar Skills Sequence: (may be modified based on class/individual progress)
Guitar
· Sem1: 14 basic chords and progressions/strumming techniques applied to folk, modern pop styles/blues form/tuning/begin first position note playing
· Sem2: more 1st position note playing, accidentals, rhythms, ensembles and playing bass
